Default STT on Consolidation of Portfolio

Hi All

I have 2 demat account - one single holding and another joint holding with my mother. I want to consolidate all the holdings into a single demat account [single holding].

Would STT be charged if I move shares between these 2 accounts ? Also what kind of transaction would this be since it is neither market or off-market esp since there is no money changing hands.

Thanks
Santosh

If both accounts have the same first holder, then there is nothing to worry about.

For taxation purpose, first holder is considered the owner of the shares.

STT is applicable only to stock market transactions and not to such transfers.
