Default Retail Sector

I do have some holding in pantaloon retail at 300 levels.

But somehow the debt of the company is putting pressure on the share prices as given by some reports.

Wanted to know which company looks good valuation wise in retail from pantaloon, trent and shoppers stop.

I hope I haven't missed others especially big players i have no idea about small players like vishal retail, cantabil and koutons.

RETAIL in INDIA can only be bought on the tremendous future potential it holds rather than current valuations, and I think PANTALOON is best placed, its positioning wise as well as scale, lot can be said about bad valuations of pantaloon, but say if WALMART takes a controlling stake in PANTALOON. it could get everything CASH, CAPABILITY, and GLOBAL source, for value for money merchandise, which Indian consumer has tremendous latent demand.

That is the problem. Government doesn't want that because they will dictate terms which the government is against and wants to keep them under there thumb and this players are so rich that they don't want such rule. Hence lobbying in background of same going.

NO govt in India would touch opening up of retail, unless they are forced to or arm twisted, which is the case today, US is putting tremendous pressure on INDIA to open our RETAIL sector. Sooner or later gradually INDIA will have to allow walmart on their terms, which will be a great boost to indian consumption and consumption story. Whether walmart picks up panta, is a different story, but I think PANTA is the only company that fits the positioning of wallmart. And creating infrastructure that pantaloon has created would take tremendous amount of time and efforts and cost at this point of time.

How is the Retail sector's contribution to GDP computed?

If A produces goods, B is the whole seller, C is the retailer who eventually sells to D the consumer, What is "C"s contribution to GDP?
