Report: 50 Indian Cities To See Retailing Boom In Next Two Years
Real estate consultant Jones Lang Lasalle Meghraj (JLL Meghraj) has created a list of 50 Indian cities that will witness a retailing boom in next two years.
Its report "The geography of opportunity: The India 50" divides the 50 cities into five categories:
maturing
transitional
high-growth
emerging
nascent
The top 15 cities will corner 80% of the retailing market by 2008. Just Delhi and Mumbai will constitute 40% of the organized retailing sector by 2008.
-maturing cities include Mumbai, Delhi(NCR).
-transitional cities include Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai , Ahmedabad.
-high-growth cities include Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Kochi, Surat, Vadodara.
-emerging cities include Nagpur, Indore, Nasik, Bhubaneshwar, Vizag, Coimbatore, Mangalore, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram, Amritsar, Agra, Goa.
-nascent cities include Patna, Bhopal, Meerut, Asansol, Varanasi, Kolhapur, Sonepat.
India's $300 billion organized retail industry is expected to double by 2015.
However in spite of an overall bullish view, the report also adds that an industry shakeout is imminent and many inefficient players may vanish.
