Default Transfer Shares From One Demat Account to Another

I want to transfer some shares from one demat account to another - the demat accounts are in 2 different cities and between 2 different DP participants (Geojit and SBI)

Not sure of the exact steps - I guess I need to fill out my DIS booklet and give it to the recipient and he needs to submit it at his DP ? Anything else I need to do ?

How long does the transfer usually take ?

Unlike cheques, DIS have to be submitted to transferer's DP.

You have to submit the DIS to your own DP and the DP will transfer the shares to recipient's demat account.

Thanks for the clarification. Is there anything the receiver needs to do ?

I see that the receiver needs to provide a "receipt" instruction to his DP as per https://nsdl.co.in/services/offmarket.php , is this necessary ?

Usually (99% of the cases), clients give a "standing receipt instruction" to the DP at the time of account opening.

If a ""standing receipt instruction" has been given, the receiver doesn't need to do anything.
