There isn't much information available about "Avantha Power & Infrastructure Limited".

Thus, it is not possible to comment on the price of the deal.

The deal is being done at book value and thus may not be a bad deal.

==============================

Udayan made a good point today:

Power generation companies get lower valuations compared to power equipment manufacturers.

If Crompton Greaves is moving into power generation, its valuations may adjust a bit downwards to reflect the change in its business model.

The markets seem to be over-reacting to the development.

Crompton Greaves has dropped from 135 to 100.

This means a loss of Rs 1200 crore in market value.

The investment is valued at only Rs 224 crore.

I am thinking of buying a small quantity if I get a price of around Rs 96.

I am not expecting not much....just Rs 10 - Rs 15 of a bounce in next few days.

Avantha Power is out with a Draft RHP. Alchemist, now that they are planning to come out with an IPO, does that mean Crompton will not invest money into Avantha Power, or has it already done so?

Thanks.

I'm a big fan of Crompton and will definitely put in my full application .

Only thing I don't like is the low dividend which they pay about 3 times yearly. I'd rather they do it once rather than incur the (nearly) meaningless cost each time.

Along with the results declaration today, there was the following piece of news, regarding amalgamation of Brook Crompton Greaves Ltd.(BCGL) with Crompton Greaves (CG).

Quote:
(b). BCGL being a 100% subsidiary of the Company, the entire paid-up share capital would be cancelled and the Transferor Company stands dissolved without winding-up.

(c). The amalgamation would result into increase in the Authorised Share capital of the Company by Rs. 160,000,000 comprising 80,000,000 Equity Shares of Rs.2 each.
Source

What implications would this have on CG?

For trading or investing?

Crompton Greaves has strong support at 168.45.

(Crompton Greaves rallied from 56.8 to 349. 61.8% of retacement of that rally would be 168.45).

Fundamentally, I think at the current price (176), there is some value in the stock, but not enough value for me to buy.

I don't expect Crompton Greaves to show spectacular growth in the long-term; maybe it will grow 8%-10% over the next 2-3 years.

Around Rs 150 per share (10 times FY 2013 consolidated earnings), the risk-reward will become slightly favorable for investors.

I prefer BHEL over Crompton Greaves and am waiting for the BHEL FPO.

Surprising to see such a knee-jerk reaction to the results as if the company suddenly became loss-making or lost a major source of revenue like Aban Offshore did. True, the results have been below expectations for two consecutive quarters now but still the company has not become a GTL or Koutons. I shall gamble for some quick gains if it reaches the prospective-support level mentioned by Alchemist. Of course I believe that institutional selling may end soon and buying shall resume after the expiry possibly.

I think Crompton Greaves was over-valued and hence has corrected sharply.

Even if buying resumes, I don't' expect any major recovery.

Of course, 8%-10% upmove is possible.

Industry 2.0Avantha Group To Sell Stake In Crompton Greaves

The owner is planning to sell stake to an overseas owner and for first time it's trading above my cost price of 155.

I am on exit spree and first time I'll be selling a stock at no profit no loss case.

Should I remain invested as chances of the company plans to improve after this sell?

Any guesses?

At current market price, the stock seems fairly valued and I don't see much medium-term upside on valuation basis.

Long-term prospects depend on what happens to the Indian economy.

If a strong government (with clear majority) comes to power after the elections, the markets (and this stock) will rally, no matter who forms the government.

If the stake sell happens, then it won't happen at current market price. Controlling stakes are not sold at investors' fair value.

Fair value of a controlling stake is much more than fair value of a minority stake.

If the company's ownership changes, an open offer will follow and also a delisting offer.

If you think that the news is reliable, then you should hold on to the stock.

The stake sell may happen at 200, 250 or maybe even Rs 300 a share.

Hitachi may acquire Thapar stake in Crompton Greaves: reports

If that happens is it worth holding the stock?

I am exiting all companies who has huge debt on its book.

But if Hitachi is buyer I'll drop the plan to exit. I respect the company a lot.

If the deal happens it will happen significantly above the current price.

According to the report you have stated the deal will be done at around Rs 240 per share.

If that is true, the stock may touch 230 in next few days.

Hold for now.

Exited the stock around 188.

Modi rally triggered the sell. Anyways not concerned much about it now.

I have exited a lot of shares.

Had almost 78 stocks which now has reduced to almost 53-54.

Trying to further reduce to 25.Already 10 stocks have gone to my Never to Sell category because of good dividend or already cost price removed by partial sell.

Crompton Greaves to exit consumer products business

Crompton Greaves to exit consumer products business - The Hindu

"As announced on March 3, 2015, all of CGs shareholders will receive shares of CGCEL such that the shareholding of CGCEL upon completion of the demerger will mirror the shareholding of CG. "

(a) Does this mean we can expect 1 CGCEL share in our account, for every CG share held? If so, by when?

(b) How would this affect the price of CG's and CGCEL's shares?

(a) Yes.

(b) Theoretically, after the demerger, the price of CG should go down by an amount equal to the price of CGCEL.

The actual drop may be different from the theoretical calculations.

I have noticed that in most cases, the sum of prices of demerged companies is greater than the price of the original company.

Been totally out of touch with my acccount for a few years now.

What exactly happened in March 2016? CG changed name to CG Power? Why price dropped by 66% in Mar 2016? Checked share splits / bonus ----- NONE FOUND.

Is this due to the completion of the demerger?
