Default Day Trading Question

Hi All,
I had one question/doubt while doing day-trading ( I am new to this ) .

Suppose I have 200 shares of KOLTEPATIL (old shares bought) in my DP.

today , if my shares value increase by 5 rs ( previous close 60 , today it is @ 65 ) , now if I sell KOLTEPATIL @ 65 , and buy back the same share the same day @60 ( if that comes back to that value) , and will this be called as day-trade ? will the brokerage be as that of Intraday trade ?

I use kotak securities.

Thanks for the reply in Advance

Yes. It is day-trading. Make sure you do both transactions on the same exchange.

Also note:

If you selected margin option for day trading then you need not to pay for the DP charges.

If selected delivery option for day trading then first your share will be sold out from your DP and the same number of share will be considered as fresh buy.

In this case, you need to pay DP charges....

In both cases, for Brokerages charges will be the same as mentioned by your broker.

Happy Investing!

In Kotak securities, this is not correct. Even if you mark delivery before selling and then buy the shares, it will be considered as intraday. There will not be any DP charges.

In kotak securites, marking delivery does not involve any DP transaction. Shares are debited from DP on T + 1 day, if you dont square off your position.

That what I experienced before.....

So if I have shares in my DP then I don't do delivery opt day trade for those particular shares. Prefer Margin opt

Sanyad, who is your broker?

Geojit currently does not follow this practice. So long as buy/sell squares off for the day, your demat shares are safe.

I never experience this in Sharekhan.

In ICICIdirect, if you don't mark as margin, they charge delivery brokerage (but one side only).

I use kotak securities.
it will be considered a day trade and day-trading brokerage will be charged.

as stated by sanyad74, in case of a few brokers, if you don't mark the trade "intraday", you are charged delivery brokerage.

however, that isn't the case for Kotak Securities and so you will be charged intraday brokerage.

I might have spoken too soon!

Geojit has a new platform, FLIP. Here, you are required to choose cash, margin, or BTST.

I will have to look at the implications carefully, though I invariably choose cash.
